Sir Nick Faldo launches his selection of premium wines

Golfing legend teams up with wine importer Milton Sandford to introduce six small estate winners

Sir Nick Faldo MBE is one of Europe’s finest golfers with 6 major championships and 11 Ryder Cup appearances. The former World Number 1 is the highest individual points scorer in Ryder Cup history. It is incredible to think that, as a 14 year old watching the 1971 Masters on his parents’ new colour television, the young Nick Faldo had never even picked up a golf club. Within three years, he’d become a successful amateur and by the age of 20 had become the youngest ever player to qualify for the Ryder Cup.

Sir Nick has always had a passion for great wines and through the years, he’s had the privilege to be taste to many. He wanted to create a European range that encapsulated his love for the wines and regions that he’s encountered over the years. The wines have been selected from some of the best vineyards across Europe, resulting in a range that is accessible, diverse and a reflection of his personality.

The bottle label is The Faldo Shield – the six stripes in claret and green represent his 6 Major Championships in the order of their win: Claret Jug, Green Jacket, Green, Claret, Green, Claret, Claret, Green. It is a golfer’s story, a piece of history, a celebration of championship moments and the winner who created them. We’re delighted that Sir Nick has worked with us to launch his own wine collection of two white wines and four red wines from some of Europe’s finest wine regions.

The Whites

Faldo Sauvignon De Touraine, Domaine Renaudie, Loire, France

Less tropical than a New Zealand Sauvignon but packed with powerful fruit oozing Loire elegance. This is a benchmark Sauvignon Blanc very similar in style to Sancerre. Nervous, lean acidities perfectly balanced with restrained grassy notes and elderflower.

Domaine de la Renaudie Loire, France
Winegrower husband and oenologist wife, Patricia and Bruno Denis produce this elegant Sauvignon from their 25 hectares of 40 year old vines.

Faldo Chablis, Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard, Burgundy, France

Elegant aromas, almost delicate on the nose, fuller on the palate with some richness of fruit coating the mouth, leads to a finish with a wonderful piercing edginess and almost nervous character that is both delicate yet persistent

Jean-Marc Brocard Burgundy, France
This Chablis is produced by Jean-Marc Brocard and his son Julien in Prehy, just outside the village of Chablis. Its beautiful mineral structure is linked to the chalky soils of the vineyards in the hills surrounding the region.

The Reds

Faldo Chateauneuf Du Pape, Berthet-Rayne, Rhone, France

Full ruby with fresh boysenberry and cassis on the nose. Broad snappy and concentrated with ripe dark fruits and floral pastilles.

Domaine Berthet-Rayne Rhone, France
Raoul Raymond took over the reins of the family farm in the southern Rhone during the 1920′s and began to realise his dreams of creating a wonderful vineyard. In 1978 with the help of his son-in-law, Christian, Domaine Berthet-Rayne was born.

Faldo Rioja, Bodegas Baigorri, Spain

Deep cherry-red wine with plenty of depth, aromas of black fruit compote with notes of spice. It is elegant, smooth and silky in the mouth and has a warm long finish.

Bodegas Baigorri Rioja, Spain
The winemaking process is completely driven by gravity at Bodegas Baigorri. Built 105 feet underground, the winery harnesses gravity to avoid the use of pumps or mechanical methods of any kind that might damage the grapes or the wine. The winery is as much a work of art as the wines it produces.

Faldo Valpolicella Ripasso, Le Tobele, Italy

Chocolate and black cherry fruit with hints of raisins on the nose. Medium-full bodied and offering dried fruit, spice, and a sweet core. Dry and fruity on the finish.

Le Tobele Valpolicella, Italy
Based in the heart of Valpolicella Classica in the village of Marano, Le Tobele estate and winery is owned by the Degani family who have been making exquisite wines for over five generations.

Faldo Barolo, Bussia Monti, Piedmonte, Italy

Great depth and complexity of Autumnal fruits, underlying leather and richness of fruit. Not overly tannic but with wonderful balance.

Paolo Monti Piedmont, Italy
Paolo Monti founded his estate in the Langhe Hills in 1996 when he purchased 25 acres of vineyards and built a state of the art winery. Over the years, Paolo’s wines have received fantastic acclaim and recognition, which he and winemaker Roberto Gerbino put down to attentive vineyard management, modern vinification and meticulous maturation.

The Sir Nick Faldo range will be available in golf clubs, restaurants, gastro-pubs and good wine merchants
