I read a number of political blogs. The most notable being the one written by Guido Fawkes, www.order-order.com By the way if you are easily upset by very strong language and tasteless jokes do not visit this site.
In the main left wing blogs struggle to get many comments or visitors whereas the libertarian and right wing blogs positively blossom.
The main reason for this is the humour, posters don’t take themselves very seriously and lampoon politicians on all sides relentlessly. This makes for some extremely entertaining reading.
Compare this to the left wing blogs where posters churn out the equivalent of this month’s tractor production statistics to justify their beloved leaders’ actions. It’s neither interesting nor funny and reads like a 1960s edition of the Soviet newspaper Pravda.
This is one of the reasons that I think Boris Johnson will win over Ken Livingstone at the London election. Ken is as funny as a ferret down your trousers when judged against the self-deprecating and light hearted Boris.
The only bit of comic relief from the left comes unwittingly from our supreme leader Gordon. McBean, McBroon, McCavity Cat (never around when there’s trouble), Jonah in a tartan waistcoat, call him what you will, he provides an endless stream of comedic moments.
The open mouthed lunge at Carla Bruni this week, the Queen gaining great amusement that he got lost going to his seat at the State Banquet, the buttoned up jacket, the grimace that emerges when he gets one of those ‘Smile Now’ messages in his earpiece. Add to this his House of Commons nasal exploration video now playing to great acclaim on YouTube and you have got a comedy great
Great thing is, it’s all visual humour so has got international appeal. Charlie Chaplin, Marcel Marceau, Mr Bean, Benny Hill, now step up Gordon Brown, your left wing humourless colleagues and supporters need to be shown how it’s done.
You never know we may even see a funny left wing blog emerge.
