Not so little Britain
Obesity in Britain has trebled in the last 20 years and one in four British adults is now considered clinically obese. Research has revealed that the majority of Brits think that losing weight requires as much willpower as giving up smoking, believing that they are actually addicted to the quantities of food they eat, even though they know that it can be detrimental to other aspects of their health.
Psychotherapist Jane Firbank discusses the reasons why we overeat and suggests ways in which those wishing to lose weight can overcome their eating addiction and control their appetite.

How to keep your sight healthy
Help from eye health company Bausch and Lomb
Many people will not be familiar with the term AMD, which stands for Age-Related Macular Degeneration. The macula is an oval yellow spot near the centre of the retina in the eye. Close to the centre of the macula is a large concentration of cone or light sensing cells that are responsible for the central area of vision and allow people to see fine detail. AMD occurs when these light-sensing cells in the central area of vision stop working and eventually die, this causes blurred vision and may lead to blindness.
There are steps that can be taken to avoid or minimise the effect of AMD and eye health company Bausch and Lomb has developed a range of supplements that will help to keep your eyes in good working order.

Never mind 'Superfoods' It's all about the 'Supernutrients'
Consumers should tuck into the world’s first ‘supernutrient’ say health experts.
A new report issued this week lifts the lid on the whole body health benefits of what some of Britain’s best known academics are calling the original ‘supernutrient’ – fibre. Found in parts of plant foods like cereals, fruits, vegetables and pulses, fibre can help cut the risk of heart disease, support the immune system, help combat cancer and keep weight in check.
Despite this, Britain’s fibre intake falls dangerously short of the recommended amount with eight out of 10 of us failing to eat enough fibre (seven out of ten men and almost nine out of ten women). Guideline daily amounts advise that adults should eat 25g of fibre per day. The New F-Word Report is a new study into the health benefits of fibre published by a group of health and nutrition experts called the Fibre Foundation.

This is why, Ian Spratley, when told he had advanced bowel cancer, thought it important to share his experience of the impact of the disease. ‘It’s not over till the Bag Lady rings’ chronicles his journey from diagnosis through treatment and recovery, enabling the reader to get inside the mind of a cancer patient, and is recommended reading for cancer patients, survivors, friends, carers and healthcare professionals. Cardiac Home Monitoring Gives New Quality of Life
The common symptoms of a heart attack - chest pain, upper back and or shoulder pain, can often be passed off as feeling “under the weather”. Various other medical conditions manifest similar symptoms to those of a heart attack, making it difficult to identify the actual problem. Only an ECG reading can truly reveal whether or not the symptoms are indicative of a heart attack.
Now a cardiac home monitoring service has been developed which enables those with a history of heart disease to take a hospital-quality ECG reading in their own home and receive an instant diagnosis from a trained cardiac clinician over the phone within a few minutes. To read more click here...
