Bavarian BeerhouseThe Bavarian Beerhouse - Review

Peter Morrell samples some genuine Bavarian hospitality in this lively Beer Cellar

If you want to experience a large slice of Southern Germany hospitality then you only need travel as far as Old Street tube station near the City of London to the Bavarian Beerhouse.  Here you will find lashings of hearty German food and  foaming steins of beer, served by waitresses wearing traditional dirndl dresses,  All in  the rustic setting of a traditional beer hall reminiscent of the famous Munich Oktoberfest.

Laya'LinaLaya’Lina

Peter Morrell reviews Laya’Lina, a fashionable Lebanese restaurant in Knightsbridge

Beauchamp Place in Knightsbridge is one of London’s smartest streets and is the location of an exciting new Lebanese restaurant, offering some really innovative food, called Laya’Lina.

Peter developed a love or Lebanese food in Paris some years ago, but this was his first experience of it in the U.K., did Laya’Lina continue the love affair?

SilkTaking Silk

Peter Morrell reviews the fusion restaurant Silk, in the historic Courthouse Hotel

It’s about seven o’clock in the evening and I am sat in the holding cell of a central London court, complete with a bench to lie on and even a loo by the side of it. But I assure you I haven’t committed any crime., The time I am doing is in the bar of the Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, previously known as Great Marlborough Street Magistrates Court

Silk, the Hotel restaurant, oozes history. The dining space is crowned with a stunning vaulted glass ceiling and the walls covered in English Oak panelling. Still there are the original judge’s bench, witness stand and dock. which, over the years, have seen a veritable procession of celebrities who have had a brush with the law, including Mick Jagger, Keith Richard and John Lennon.

Bangalore ExpressBangalore Impress –

Peter Morrell, Food and Drink Editor, reviews Bangalore Express, a new and unique Indian restaurant in the City and gets a pleasant surprise.

A very smart bar at ground floor level, an air- conditioned basement restaurant with state of the art wine cellar, modern minimalist decor with wooden flooring, designer seating and abstract art on the walls and stylish crockery and cutlery, all add to the sense of occasion at this City eaterie

The pleasant surprise is that it's not ‘Express’ at all but has a leisurely and relaxed atmosphere.

StanzaStanza - An English Restaurant in Chinatown

Peter Morrell, Food and Drink Editor of AMG, enjoys a convivial night out in this West End restaurant, club and bar.

You may remember Teatro on the corner of Greek Street and Shaftesbury Avenue from a while back as a place for lunch or a pre-theatre meal when owned by Leslie Ash's husband, Lee Chapman. It's now under different management had a name change and got itself new chef. Known as Stanza it serves lunch, pre-theatre and evening meals and at around 10:00pm morphs into a late night bar.

The Teatro label has been retained for the private members’ club at the back of the building. This is a very comfortable place to have in central London ideal for meetings or just  to relax after some retail therapy - all for a very reasonable annual membership fee.

Mimino Georgian Restaurant

Peter Morrell, Food and Drink Editor of AMG, had met some Russians on a number of occasions who had raved about a Georgian restaurant in Kensington, so when one of them invited him to dinner there he jumped at the chance. Called Mimino (Georgian for Sparrowhawk), it is a really different dining experience both in terms of food and wine. His main objective was to sample Khinkali

Napa Restaurant Review

Peter Morrell, Food and Drink Editor at AMG checks out this stylish Chiswick eaterie

It was the hottest day of the year and, after a sweltering tube journey to Gunnersbury, the Chiswick Moran Hotel, a stone’s throw from the station, beckoned like an oasis, complete with palms, in the desert. Fortunately this was no mirage as Peter was heading to the Hotel’s Napa Restaurant for dinner

Nar Restaurant

Nar Restaurant and Bar
Vauxhall London SE1

Nar is a Star

For nearly 200 years, until the mid 19th Century, the Vauxhall area in London was a magnet for people wanting fun and entertainment. The reason for its popularity was Vauxhall Gardens, a large space that featured concerts, hot air balloon rides and fireworks, all innovations in their day.

Well Vauxhall has just received a well deserved and significant boost to its popularity with the opening of a brand new restaurant and bar called Nar. Nar, Turkish for pomegranate, is located in two adjoining railway arches.  A major design and refurbishment of the space has created a modern, spacious bar in one arch and an elegant dining room in the other.

Gaucho

Gaucho Restaurants own label Argentinian Wine

One of AMG's favourite restaurant groups, Gaucho, has expanded its own label range to include nine specially produced Argentinian wines.

The Terruño range, Terruño being the Spanish translation of ‘terroir’, has been put together by Gaucho Director of Wines, Phil Crozier to represent all of the major grape varieties in Argentina. The wines have been developed to show the special characteristics of each grape variety, made by the best winemaker, in the ‘terroir’ to which they are best suited. The Terruño range is sold exclusively by Gaucho both in their restaurants and in their Cavas de Gaucho, wine boutique.
