Food preparation has never been so colourful

Introducing the new Boutique range from Kenwood – Peter Morrell reports

Following the popularity of the kMix Boutique Breakfast range, Kenwood has extended its brightly coloured collection to include the kMix Stand Mixer, kMix Blender, kMix Hand Blender and kMix Hand Mixer.

Each product is now available in blue, green, orange, yellow and magenta. So whether you accessorise your kitchen in one colour or play to this season’s trend in kitchen design for mixing and matching brightly coloured items, Kenwood’s extensive kMix Boutique range can help you personalise your kitchen, in a myriad of ways.

I took a look at the new range recently and the products are striking, my own particular favourite is yellow but that is just a personal choice. To help us get a feel of the new products a group of foodies gathered in the kitchens of the cookery school, l’atelier des chefs to get some hands on experience.

To help us get to grips with the new equipment we were guided by the charming Miranda Gore Browne, finalist in the hugely successful Great British Bake-Off series.  She was a popular contestant throughout and it was her beautifully decorated, delicious signature biscuits that won the hearts of the audience and wowed the judges.

We used the kMix Boutique Stand Mixer to mix the dough for one of Miranda’s recipes, pine nut and pesto savoury biscuits. Using the mixer was a breeze, the art of making a good biscuit is to not overbeat the dough so the infinitely variable speed control on the kMix Boutique enabled us to get the consistency of the ingredients exactly right.

The mixer has got a very solid feel to it even when beating rapidly and a safety mechanism shuts it off if you try and tilt it back into the change beater position. And talking of beaters the machine comes with the iconic K-beater, balloon whisk and dough hook, so you can make light work of cakes, bakes, biscuits and breads at the turn of a dial.

In fact all these accessories will help you to try the 100+ recipes in Miranda’s new book BISCUIT. This is the ultimate biscuit bible ranging from classic favourites such as Bourbons, jammy dodgers and Viennese whirls to delicate pistachio macaroons, lemon drizzle biscuits and savoury nibbles, these are recipes that celebrate the joy and simple pleasure of sitting down to a bickie and shows how easy it is to enjoy a home-baked version. Miranda also reveals her tips on how to decorate, wrap and box your biscuits to turn them into the perfect gift.

After the cookery lesson and tasting the savoury biscuits, which were divine, we took a look at rest of the Boutique range. The kMix Boutique Blender is a handy addition to any kitchen work top, combining a glass goblet with a metal body, the machine includes an easy clean design as well as a unique dial for selecting the correct function.

The kMix Boutique Hand Blender is for smaller culinary tasks, such as blending soups or puréeing food for babies, it is compact and an essential kitchen accessory. It comes complete with a whisk, standard blender and soup XL tools incorporating Kenwood Triblade technology – a powerful three blade system where each blade is angled to give optimum blending performance.

Finally there is the kMix Boutique Hand Mixer, taking up little space it can be easily stored away or displayed as pride of place in your kitchen. This handy machine offers both whisk and kneader attachments so you can whisk up egg whites and knead dough effectively.

Kenwood’s Kitchen Recipe app for iPhone® and iPad
Kenwood has also just launched its first app for iPhone and iPad® in the UK and Ireland, aimed at helping Brits make the most of their kitchen equipment, to create simple and tasty meals.

This free app is the first to be released in this category and has a handy function for users to search either by recipe or machine to create new and exciting dishes. Each recipe offers products advice and technical ‘know how’ to ensure that machines are being used to their optimum ability to get great results in the kitchen.

Over 80 recipes are split into easy to navigate sections; soups, starters and salads, main courses, desserts, breads and tarts and drinks, plus a section for vegetarian dishes. Each recipe has specific tabs detailing the ingredients and appliance needed, plus step-by-step instructions for making the dish. Recipes can also be shared via Twitter, Facebook and e-mail.

In addition, there is a useful shopping function so ingredients can be exported into a shopping list ahead of a supermarket trip, as well as a favourites section where recipes can be filed, and a section where notes can be made.

The Kenwood Kitchen Recipe app for iPhone and iPad is available now from the App Store.
