The Islands of Guernsey celebrate 75 years of Liberation with HERITAGE75 (April – October 2020)

Guernsey is marking the 75th anniversary of its Liberation from German occupying forces in 2020 with Heritage75, a major island-wide festival with a seven-month programme of events and festivities

From April to October 2020, visitors to Guernsey and its sister islands of Herm, Sark and Alderney will be able to join islanders and partake in one of 75 unique heritage-themed celebrations. From themed tours, guided walks, and exhibitions to outdoor and family-focused events, the rolling programme of activity will enable visitors to discover and experience what life was like before, during and after the occupation, while also delving into other areas of the Bailiwick’s rich history.

The festivities will culminate on 9th May at the official Liberation Day anniversary, the islands’ much-lauded annual celebration of freedom.

As well as bringing history alive with the personal anecdotes and artefacts of local experts, the Heritage75 events will also weave together the stories and landscapes of the island’s many parishes. All events and booking details will feature on a regularly updated web microsite at www.visitguernsey.com/heritage75

As part of its Heritage 75 activity, The Old Government House Hotel & Spa has an exclusive package for 25-28 May. The package includes a special three-day itinerary hosted by local Guernsey guide Gill Girard and Annie Barrows, co-author of The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society.
