Chino Latino to host Day of the Dead Tasting Menu Experience

Peter Morrell previews the Die de los Muertos food and the chillingly good atmosphere

On Friday 2nd November, award-winning Pan-Asian restaurant and Latin bar Chino Latino, located on London’s Southbank, will be celebrating Day of the Dead by hosting an exclusive 4 course tasting menu experience that will be available for just one night only.

As part of the celebrations, Chino Latino will have large 4ft brightly coloured floral skulls hanging in the windows of the restaurant bringing the festivities to the interiors.

Fearless Group Executive Chef, Werner Seebach, will take guests on a culinary journey with his Day of the Dead inspired menu, including dishes that have a Latin American influence with touches of Mexican ingredients and flavours.

The first course of the menu will include Jalapeno Maki Rolls made with avocado, truffle aioli and creamy spicy sauce in addition to Lobster Taquitos with Aji Amarillo, avocado and lime and Ceviche of calamari, shrimps, sea bass and avocado. The second course features Red Snapper with mango and gruyere cheese empanadas, and Bacon Wrapped Dates with Lincquica sausage and mustard mayonnaise. Guests will enjoy a third course of Churasco Grande, sirloin beef skewers and chorizo, Corn and Artichoke Tamale with Huancaina sauce. In true Day of the Dead style, the dessert will be a Passion fruit skull designed with edible flowers.

For guests not able to try the menu on Friday 2nd November, the Passion fruit skull dessert will still be available after the event.

Peter Morrell Editor comments “I have previewed the menu and it is frighteningly outstanding. We sharpened our appetite with a mezcal tequila shot flavoured with lime and coriander. The menu had three multi dish courses followed by a skull shaped dessert with bleeding eyes are deliciously daunting. All the food was first rate, highlights included the calamari, shrimps, sea bass and avocado ceviche which was fresh and uplifting and the crunchy lobster taquito cones topped with aji Amarillo, avocado and lime.

Other standouts were the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with Linquica sausage and mustard mayonnaise and the churasco grande, skewers of melt in the mouth beef sirloin with chorizo served over hot lava rocks. Our matched wines for the evening were a white viognier and a red merlot.

The atmosphere was as good as the menu, the LED light wall next to the escalator up to the restaurant was Day of the Dead themed. Arriving in the packed dining space everyone was in party mood. There was upbeat live music and even a roaming opera singer who may have been a phantom.

I would advise you to book early for this unique event.”

Tickets are priced at £45 per person and are available from Design My Night here…
