Essex to get new dining hotspot – Tom, Dick & Harry’s

There’s nothing ordinary about this new restaurant

There’s a new restaurant coming to Essex and its set to shake up the area’s dining and social scene. From working breakfasts through to leisurely lunches, after-work cocktails and decadent dinners, Tom, Dick & Harry’s is a new all-day dining restaurant opening on Loughton High Street next month.

Moreish, modern small plates, an unrivalled selection of the lightest Provence rosés, a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar, live music and the Sunday Roast Club are just a taste of what’s on offer at Tom, Dick & Harry’s.

The brainchild of Lee Newton, owner of the Loughton-based award-winning media and events business, Media 10, the menu is inspired by his extensive travels and his passion for wine and food.

Head chef, Michael Carter’s signature dishes come in the form of Nibbleinis™ – modern small plates that mix Mediterranean flavours with impeccably sourced British ingredients, many from local producers. Choices will include British burrata; fried crisp Cornish squid; and chargrilled prawns. More substantial mains come in the form of grills from the charcoal oven.

More substantial plates such as lobster on chips, Essex Tomapork chop with apple and sage and 20-day aged steaks, in a variety of cuts, come from the restaurant’s charcoal Kopa oven whilst other mains like baked aubergine with Graceburn cheese, walnuts, spring onions; and spatchcock poussin with cumin, sumac, oregano, labneh, pack a flavoursome punch.

Breakfasts and brunches, served Monday to Saturday, come sunny side up with dishes ranging from the virtuous and nutritious to the downright decadent whilst the end of the week brings the Sunday Roast Club. Kick of the day with a bespoke Bloody Mary, just the way you like it, from the ‘build-your-own’ bar before opting for your choice of joint, carved by the head of the table and shared family-style at the table with all the trimmings. Add to this, acoustic performances from local musicians tinkling the ivories of the restaurant’s baby grand piano and Sundays just got a whole lot more sociable.

Whilst the wine list features reds, whites and bubbles, it’s all about the pink stuff at Tom, Dick & Harry’s. From pale Provence wines through to a full-bodied Pinot Noir and frosé (rosé slushies), the restaurant offers a veritable rainbow rosé and the biggest list in Essex, with all the big names sitting alongside a range of boutique producers. House wine is served by the magnum – a post-meal measure ensures you only pay for what you drink.

The gin collection, featured on a flavour wheel, features over 20 varieties from ‘juniper rich and robust’ through to ‘fresh and floral’ alongside a selection of tonics whilst cocktails are inspired by some of the world’s most famous Toms, Dicks and Harrys. One of the signature serves ‘Just Like That’ is taken from Tommy Cooper’s tendency to mix his spirits and featuring a blend of Fresh & Floral Gin, Martini Rosso Vermouth and Yellow Chartreuse.

Essex-based interiors company, Owl Design, have created an interior that combines the industrial with the luxurious finishes. The contemporary dining room features a mix of vintage and modern furniture and cool collectibles to create a stylish space that works from day to night. Pull up a stool at the bar for a morning espresso or after-work cocktail, enjoy a chilled cheeky glass of wine on the al fresco dining terrace or kick back in the plush velvet upholstered banquettes.

With an approachable, stay-a-while buzzy vibe and friendly service, there’s nothing commonplace about this Tom, Dick & Harry.
