Adventure travel specialist Explore has revealed that 70% of over 50s admit to regularly make excuses for not travelling and taking a trip of a lifetime.

To encourage more people to take the plunge and travel solo, Explore is offeringa solo traveller offer with no single supplement on selected small group trips booked between 1 June – 2 July 2018. Choose from over 60 trips in over 30 destinations, from Walking in Lanzarote to perfecting your photography skills in Bolivia with a resident photography expert.

One of the biggest worries of travelling solo is meeting new people, and recent feedback showed that 75% of Explore customers identified this as their greatest concern. However, post-trip feedback shows that travelling as part of a group made people feel safe and secure and enabled them to have a more enjoyable experience.

Travellers also admitted that being part of a like-minded group with common interests and a local guide gave them a more authentic experience than they would have had travelling completely alone. With a local guide you get to visit places that would be very difficult or impossible to get to otherwise and you get local, insider knowledge without a language barrier.

Solo travel is on the rise and Explore has seen a steady growth in solo travel over the last three years – today more than half of its customers are travelling on their own. European walking and trekking trips are amongst the most popular, with Spain being the top-selling destination for solo travellers.
