Tamarind by Elegant Hotels has launched a new Bajan rum excursion

Visitors spend a wonderful afternoon of discovery and rum tasting around the island

This year is the Barbados Year of Culinary Experiences so there’s never been a better time to find out about the birthplace of rum and what makes it the essence of the island’s culture!

Tamarind’s ‘Tamtastic Rum Shop Crawl’ aboard an authentic Bajan bus includes an important stop at the island’s famed Mount Gay distillery, believed to be the oldest in the world and dating back to 1703. Find out more about the production and, more importantly, savour a few of its famous brands from Mount Gay Rum, to Foursquare Rum and St Nicholas Rum. Back on the bus, the tour continues with a scenic and laid-back journey to visit some of the best rum shops dotted around the island. Guests can enjoy ice-cold rum punch or buy bottles to take home as souvenirs at St George’s Full Pitch Bar, the Sea Side Bar at Bathsheba and the most famous of all, the John Moore Bar at St James.

Priced at £43 per person, the four-hour tour (1pm-5pm) includes transport, a one-hour tour of the Mount Gay Distillery, rum tasting on a private basis, snacks and beverages and visits to three rum shops.
