A foodie adventure which delves into the authentic age-old gourmet delights of the famed Mediterranean diet. The tours take place on the following dates; 4th – 10th June and 15th – 21st October 2018.

Much of Andalucía’s food is still produced using centuries-old traditional methods, from fish caught in a system invented by the Phoenicians, to sherry produced in the solera system since the 1700s. But it’s not just about the gastronomic experience – this region is about enjoying the best hyper-local food and wine surrounded by stunning natural beauty and fascinating culture.

A large proportion of the bluefin tuna caught sustainably on the Cadiz coast is flown to Japan to be used in sushi and sashimi – it’s that good, while Andalusian olive oil is constantly winning the world’s top awards. Sherry, whose home is Jerez, is made using a highly specialised aging and blending process; this versatile wine has thrown off its fusty image and found a new global following among the younger generations, featuring in cocktails created by the hippest mixologists and paired with a huge range of dishes. Guests will also visit a Master Cutter of the famed Jamón Ibérico in the hilltop town of Ronda.

What does the tour feature?

The highlights of the Taste of Andalucía’s Tour include an artisan goat’s cheese workshop in Casares (Malaga) – a pretty hilltop white town which you would never guess is just a few kilometers’ from the Costa del Sol; a Cooking Day with Annie from Annie B’s Spanish Kitchen, starting with visits to Barbate fish market and a specialist tuna shop, followed by a fun and informative class in Vejer de la Frontera, all with one of Spain’s top-rated culinary schools.

The tour also visits bodegas both in Jerez, and the Sierra de Ronda, a picturesque area known by aficionados for its excellent boutique wineries – with tastings, naturally; and olive oil mills in the ancient towns of Antequera and Archidona, located at the very heart of Andalucía. This day is spent with an EVOO Professional Sommelier and producer of an award-winning olive oil who will give a tasting in the serene setting of an olive grove on a private Andalucian Cortijo. You will also learn about Jamón Ibérico from a Master Cutter whose family has won national prizes in the art of slicing jamón. In his family business, you will taste the whole range of Jamónes available and learn the difference between the various qualities and types.

Many of the food producers are family-owned, and clients will be taken on a private tour – often including aspects not usually accessible to the general public, thanks to TOMA & COE’s extensive network of personal friendships and relationships. The restaurants and eateries selected for the lunches and dinners celebrate the very best of local cuisine and specialties. Meals will offer an eclectic mix of gastronomic experiences.

Accommodation in Malaga, Vejer de la Frontera, Ronda and Antequera, is in hand-picked boutique hotels, full of character and in beautiful locations, whether in small, historic towns or buzzy cities.
