Regular readers may recall that I had a memorable meal at Chino Latino earlier this year. So with the festive season approaching I went back to see what treats Chino Latino has conjured up for Christmas and New Year.

A number of new cocktails have been created. One was a passion fruit martini served with a glass of champagne that you can either sip separately or add to the cocktail. Another was based on raspberry vodka and was fruity and fragrant. They were both delicious.

As I enjoyed the cocktails, samples were served from the New Year’s Eve menu and the buffet of an exciting Canape Party, more of which later. A most delicate vegetarian sushi was swiftly followed by a beautifully presented smoked salmon tartare. More sushi arrived, this time a California maki roll made with lobster and sirloin, the perfect surf and turf match.

A real star was the king crab legs with chilli garlic and hollanaise which was narrowly beaten into second place as my favourite by the intensely flavoured Waygu beef skewer. Two other seafood treats were the scallops with wasabi and the Chilean seabass which had a very punchy smoked chipotle sauce

Christmas Day

On Christmas Day you can either eat a la carte or have the more traditional turkey with all the trimmings. The meal this year starts with a glass of Perrier Jouet brut champagne before the main course of roast turkey breast with a pork, onion, chestnut and sage stuffing, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, honey glazed parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce and turkey jus. The meal finishes with a Christmas dessert and is priced at £45

New Year’s Eve

In the main restaurant there is a set menu that features the food I sampled and is priced at £109 per person. Chino Latino is located in the Park Plaza Riverbank hotel and on the 12th floor is the hotel’s executive lounge. The lounge has large panoramic windows looking downstream to the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament and is one of the best placed venues in London to see the fireworks at midnight.

This year there is a Canape Party on the 12th floor in the executive lounge which starts with a hot and cold buffet from the Chino Latino kitchens. The spread starts at 8:30pm and there is a dessert buffet at 10:00pm. It’s then time to relax with some drinks before you get a spectacular view of the fireworks. The canape party is priced at £180 per person.
