Seas The Day – A Limited Edition Calendar By J Sheekey

J. Sheekey, the historic fish and seafood restaurant in central London, is celebrating the men and women that supply its menu with a special charity calendar featuring trawlermen from across the UK

The restaurant, located in London’s Covent Garden since the 1890s, is shooting the 2018 calendar to raise funds for The Fishermen’s Mission – a UK-wide charity, committed to providing emergency support alongside practical, financial and emotional care for both active and retired fisherman and their families and those that have fallen on hard times.

The ‘Seas the Day’ calendar, launching in December, will recognise the efforts of fishermen all over the UK by showcasing their working lives and the turbulent conditions under which they work.

Front of House Manager, John Andrews said: “At J Sheekey, we are able to serve the best seafood in the country, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the fishermen and women that bravely work at sea each day.

We often take for granted where the delicious food on our plates come from, so with this calendar we can support and praise some of the UK’s best sea crews through this fantastic partnership with Fishermen’s Mission”.

Harry Borden, one of the UK’s finest portrait photographers whose work has been widely published across all major titles, has been announced as the photographer for the calendar.

Harry has won prizes at the World Press Photo awards (1997 and 1999) and was a judge in the contest in 2010 and 2011.

In June 2005, he was awarded a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

His on-going personal projects include a series on lone fathers, Single Parent Dads and Holocaust Survivors, which was shortlisted for the European Publishers Award for Photography and was released in 2017 by Octopus.

Harry Borden said: “I’ve often captured fishermen at sea for photo-shoots and I see the hard work that goes into sourcing seafood for restaurants, and it’s no mean feat.

I feel completely privileged to be able to honour the hard work of these men and women and it is with great joy knowing that the proceeds will go directly towards supporting them and their families.

The J Sheekey Fisherman’s Calendar will feature twelve different fishermen who have been photographed on mission by Harry Borden, across four UK fishing hotspots.

J Sheekey and the Fishermen’s Mission have worked closely on the creation of the calendar, Ali Godfrey, Director of Business Development says: “We are so excited to partner with the wonderful J Sheekey restaurant to create a calendar that will directly support the fishermen and women that provide the delicious seafood that customers enjoy on a daily basis.

We’re looking forward to seeing the finished result and our brave and hardworking fishermen and women being put on the map!

The J Sheekey Fisherman’s Calendar will be available to purchase from and in the restaurant, from December. All proceeds will go directly to The Fishermen’s Mission.
