Wines for Curry Week – 9th-15th October

Peter Morrell suggests a range of wines to complement your Balti, Bhuna and Tikki Masala

With Curry week is rapidly approaching (9th-15th October) I have been looking at wines to pair with curry. Here are some suggestions

Robert Oatley Signature Riesling 2015

This wine is from Great Southern in Western Australia’s which is one of the leading regions that produce Riesling. It is has citrus aromas in the bouquet. As it moves to the palate is shows crisp lime and apple notes with fresh acidity combined with minerality. The finish is clean and bright.

Curry pairing: Pair this crisp and dry wine showing lemon-lime flavours with chicken or vegetable curry with a coconut based sauce

Available from Cambridge Wine Merchants, Halifax Wines, Hailsham Cellars and James McCabes with an RRP of £13.15

Villa Maria Private Bin Gewurztraminer 2016

This grape variety is one of my favourites and is produced by New Zealand’s most awarded winery. Gerwurtz is the German word for seasoning and this the perfect description for the nose, which has strong aromas of spice together with tropical fruit. In the mouth there are good fruity flavours with just a touch of acidity making it very smooth, The finish is rich and fruity.

Curry pairing: The spicy character of this wine delivered with lovely richness, seamless texture and balance which will complement a Thai Red Curry with chicken or seafood fantastically.

Available from Waitrose, Majestic, Wine Rack, Ellies Cellar, The Whalley Wine Shop and with an RRP of £11.45
