The Duke of Clarence re-opens as the Sovereign of South Kensington

Nestled in the heart of South Kensington, The Duke of Clarence has re-opened following an impressive renovation

With a chic new bar, stunning dining room and a focus on small and large plates, The Duke of Clarence offers an impressive setting for both residents and visitors to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Ruling Interiors

An intimate yet swanky venue, the pub has been given a fresh new look. The mahogany bar has been restored and extended, complete with a backlit bar, striking green tiled pillars and tall leather bar stools. The dining room beams a vibrant colour scheme of deep blue and warm terracotta, interspersed with emerald green and a mixture of upholstered seating featuring eye popping injections of colour. Tall glass windows flood the room with light whilst low-hanging light fittings and contemporary artwork add character. Those looking for a quiet spot to relax can head to the rear of the pub, complete with a fireplace and separated by glass crittall screens. The perfect backdrop for a relaxing meal, social get-together or just pop in with your pooch to enjoy a relaxed pint.

Fresh & Seasonal

A prestigious menu of classic British fare is on offer with all-day plates to suit all tastes. The Duke of Clarence gives royal pardon to old bar nuts and crisps and welcomes a new offering of British charcuterie boards, featuring the likes of rosemary Suffolk salami and Cornish coppa ham served with a selection of olives and cheeses. Small plates with a contemporary twist include pork and black pudding croquettes; Suffolk ham hock; and rabbit and burnt corn cake tomato jam, whilst larger plates come in the form of guinea fowl, bacon and cabbage pie with whiskey gravy or the Duke’s cheeseburger with ale onions and fries.

The star of the show however, is the Duke of Clarence’s selection of British steaks curated by award-winning family-run butchers Frank Godfrey. From ribeye to rump, sirloin to fillet, all beef is from grass-fed British bulls ensuring a better flavour and enjoyed simply with a touch of medallion sea salt, watercress salad and fries.

Liquid Libations

Boasting an extensive new drinks menu, The Duke of Clarence is guaranteed to please the palate of the most demanding connoisseur. An impressive selection of premium spirits on offer includes the likes of Sipsmith Damson Vodka, Talisker 10yr Scotch and London’s Little Bird Gin, whilst the cocktail list comprises flawless classics such as the Mojito, Old Fashioned, Cosmopolitan and Espresso Martini.

For those passionate about their hops, the Duke offers plentiful selection of bottled craft ales from the likes of Sierra Nevada, Goose IPA and Brooklyn Brewery. As well as draught beers, a carefully curated wine list is on hand with an array of flavour profiles including the soft and fruity, dry and crisp and of course, rich and spicy. If these don’t take your fancy, the bar also serves freshly prepared juices and healthy fruit and veg shots in invigorating flavours such as the carrot, orange and cumin, with a dash of Tabasco.
