Win a case of Goa Premium Beer

AboutMyGeneration is offering readers the chance to win a case of Goa Premium Beer

The gluten-free craft pilsner beer is a genuine Indian import, unlike other ‘Indian’ beers sold in UK curry houses, which are brewed in the UK under licence, by multi-national brewing giants

The beer is brewed using the finest 2-row malt and Czech hops, by the family-run boutique Impala Distillery & Brewery in Goa.

British-style beer was introduced to India by the East India Company around 1716. To protect the beer from spoiling during the long sea voyage, it needed a high alcohol – ‘Export Strength’ – and hops content. India Pale Ale (IPA) was created about 1787 and became popular in England around 1840.

But Goa never came under British domain. Portuguese colonists had been lure by the weather to relocate their capital from Calicut to Goa, where they ruled for 450 years from 1510, until it was annexed by India in the 1960s.

It was the Portuguese who introduced many of the foods and spices (including chilli, cardamom, mango, tomatoes, and potatoes) now commonly associated with Indian cooking, to the sub-continent from the Americas.

In fact, the ubiquitous Vindaloo has strict Portuguese origins. It bears little resemblance to the fiery chicken and potato dish found in British curry houses. It derives from the Portuguese carne de vinha d’alhos, literally, meat in garlic wine marinade.

With a punchy 4.8ABV, Goa Premium Beer has proved a clear favourite amongst beer aficionados in blind tastings.
