Galvin HOP in Spitalfields is ready for summer

Peter Morrell spends an enjoyable evening away from the noise of the City on the terrace of this relaxing venue

Galvin HOP nestles comfortably next to its bigger brother the renown Michelin starred Galvin La Chapelle restaurant which is housed in an elegant Grade II listed building. Both locations are surrounded by a pedestrian area so you are insulated from the frenetic bustle of the roads in the City of London

Galvin HOP prides itself on serving gastro-pub style food with an added touch of Michelin stardust from their restaurant next door.

Settling in to a comfortable sofa on the terrace I was soon sipping a remarkably good glass of Galvin’s house champagne and sampling typical dishes from the menu. There were superior Scotch eggs, sausage roll with moreish flaky pastry, punchy jerk chicken and home-baked flat bread covered with mozarella, wild garlic and olive oil. The pièce de résistance was the Galvin Dog Deluxe, a gourmet hot dog served with fresh Maille mustard.

After a glass of champagne I moved onto another rather special drink, Pilsner Urquell. This is delivered once a week direct from the Czech Republic in a copper tank, so you can drink this highly aromatic, unpasteurised beer brewery fresh.

As well as a full service during the week, Galvin HOP offers a brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday with the option to go ‘bottomless’ with unlimited prosecco, bloody mary or Pilsner Urquell.

So if you are in this historic part of London, which has undergone a massive rejuvenation in the past few years, pop in to Galvin HOP for a well deserved drink, some delicious food and good service from the friendly staff.
