Parma and Busseto, Emilia-Romagna, Italy September 28 – October 22
Jérusalem, La Traviata, Stiffelio, Falstaff, Messa da Requiem are this year main shows as part of the Festival Verdi 2017 edition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Arturo Toscanini’s birth.
In total there are four new productions four commissions on debut, and 22 events and more than 100 scheduled sessions spread over 25 days.
The Festival has received two nominations by the International Opera Awards for best Festival and best new production with the Jean d’Arc by Saska Boddeke and Peter Greenaway. The winners will be announced on May 7, 2017.
The international promotion of the Festival Verdi has been organized by the Emilia-Romagna tourist board in collaboration with the Cultural Department of Emilia-Romagna Region, the Teatro Regio and tour operator partner Parma Incoming and will include a roadshow which will touch on all major European trade fairs and Italian Cultural Institutes abroad. This includes the Italian Cultural Institute in London on March 23rd, where opera director Graham Vick will be interviewed regarding his production and guests will be presented Parma’s 2017 Festival Verdi highlights accompanied by arie verdiane.
Opera tour packages have been created to attract music lovers to Festival Verdi and to the region. Customized tours with the opportunity to experience 4 operas in the same week, to combine culture, music , art and food, to discover everything about Verdi and the area of Parma, Busseto and Roncole, will enable holidaymakers to fully immerse themselves in the life and work of Giuseppe Verdi.
