Debuting a fresh new look and delicious seasonal menu, guests can soak up the laid-back atmosphere over an indulgent Sunday roast, unwind with a pint in front of the open fire or discover the secret garden downstairs.

In shades of soft grey and rich green with pops of copper, dark wood and rich red leather, The Champion is calm and inviting. After browsing the stalls of nearby Portobello Market, come enjoy a pint and bite to eat on a variety of buttoned-leather seats, classic bar stools and window benches. The soft furnishings lend itself to dining and socialising alike.

Party in style with friends or sit-down to a family-style meal on special occasions at the downstairs private bar – a favourite of the late Freddie Mercury. Sample dishes inspired by world flavours such as Korean pork ribs or Sautéed mushrooms and Dolcelatte on toasted sourdough, or traditionally British meals like 28-day aged rib eye, triple cooked chips with a horseradish butter sauce or a warming Shepherd’s pie topped served with cavolo nero.

When the sun shows its face, take things outside to the wrap-around terrace or steal away to the hideaway garden. Surrounded by ivy trailed walls and filled with plush trees, the semi-covered space the perfect escape from London life.

On the Menu

Whether you’re in the mood for a three-course supper, quick lunch or lazy Sunday roast, The Champion has you covered. The pub uses carefully sourced, seasonal produce to bring all your favourites to the table, including sustainably caught fish and British meat.

Ideal for a light lunch or tasty starter, small plates include roasted beets with feta and lovage pesto; pan-fried king prawns and chorizo on sourdough; Chicken wings in a Yakiniku BBQ glaze and Asian style slaw. Heartier mains of roasted half chicken in a lemon and garlic marinade; Confit duck leg served with beluga lentils, cavolo nero and creamy mash; and warming butternut squash risotto with Pecorino and pumpkin seeds, are such to satisfy even the biggest appetites. The menu changes regularly, so there is always something new to try.

Make sure to save room for the sweet stuff with sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream; warm chocolate brownie with hazelnut ice cream; and lemon tart all on the billing.

Awesome roasts, board games and great company make The Champion a great Sunday spot. Tuck into a superior line-up of 21-day aged British roast sirloin beef, Shropshire farm-assured half-chicken and hearty vegetarian roasts, among others, with homemade Yorkshire puddings, seasonal veggies and lashings of gravy.

Liquid Libations

Craft beers from around the world and Cask Marque accredited real ales are The Champion’s crowning glory. Capel Road Cider, Ilkley Mary Jane pale ale and St Austell Tribute are served alongside more local brews from Camden Town Brewery and Meantime. Seasonal beers on rotation from award winning craft breweries such as Vocation, Four Pure and Roosters offering up some of the best beer flavour profiles in the world. For those more grape than grain, an impressive wine list is also available featuring a selection of both new and old world wines by the glass.

Cocktail fans can delight in a rotating collection of pop-up showcases from the likes of Bulldog Gin and Ketel One Vodka’s Bloody Mary Kitchen. Throughout the year, spice your own Bloody Marys promise to kick-start your Sunday while an array of gins and Fever Tree mixers make the perfect partner to an afternoon on the terrace.
