Yakult Reveals What Advice Brits Would Give Their Younger Selves On Landmark UK Birthday

New research commissioned by Yakult to mark its 20th anniversary in the UK has found that 69% of Brits wish they’d made better lifestyle choices when they were younger, with over half wishing they’d saved money from a younger age.

The top five pieces of advice we’d have given our younger selves were:
  • Save money from a young age (53.25%)
  • Have more self-belief (48.10%)
  • Do more exercise (38.35%)
  • Travel more – there’s a whole world to explore (34.55%)
  • Don’t smoke (32.10%)

With landmark birthdays seeing all of us take stock and think about our past as well as our future, Yakult, the famous milk drink which contains a unique strain of bacteria that’s scientifically proven to reach the gut alive, has marked its second decade in the UK by challenging Brits to do precisely that.

The OnePoll survey commissioned by the Yakult, questioned UK adults from 18-55+ and found that nearly one in five (18%) said they’d get more sleep, with one in seven (16%) adding they’d eat breakfast every day. And a third of Brits would also tell their younger selves to trust their gut instinct.

Interestingly, when it came to the 55+ age bracket, saving money from a young age and having more self-belief were a dead heat at 51%, coming joint first in the advice we’d give our younger selves . Not smoking also crept up from fifth to third place at 43%.

Sonya Hayden, a spokesperson for Yakult said, “Landmark birthdays make us all think about our past as well as the future. While building up savings and travelling more features heavily in our research, it is clear that doing little things every day to take care of ourselves also has a big impact on our lifestyles.”
