Low, Slow & Juke opens with the soulful style of the Deep South

Exciting new bar/restaurant with delicious meats, artisan beers and killer cocktails. Peter Morrell takes a look.

Anyone discovered the hidden streets between Westminster and Victoria? Opened recently, there’s an adventurous new bar and restaurant to entice you to the neighbourhood. Low, Slow & Juke serves crafted cocktails with a signature smoked element and deep, full-flavoured, slow-cooked barbecued meats. Classics with a twist such as a Gingerbread Manhattan, and London artisan beers, complement the punchy flavours of the food menu.

Main meat dishes are hand rubbed and rested for 24 hours before being smoked low and slow for 16 hours. Specialities include St. Louis Slab Ribs, Beef Brisket, Beef Ribs and honey & BBQ glaze, through to high quality brisket burgers. There are tasty starters like chicken wings, salads if you afre less hungry and dishes for non-carnivores.

The mood here is one of heady blues & jazz, immersing you in Deep South Americana, somewhere between 1930s New Orleans and Bladerunner’s Los Angeles circa 2019.

Peter Morrell, Food and Drink Editor of AboutMyGeneration commented “This really is a unique venue offering tastes and flavours rarely found outside the USA. While nibbling smoked bacon fat popcorn I sipped a Beavertown 8 Ball American style IPA which had more bite than an alsatian. The meat was all tender and delicious, the beef short ribs were a standout, and the side of slaw was fresh and crunchy. The after dinner Vanilla and Fig Sour made with Fig infused Maker’s Mark Bourbon and fig liqueur was both inventive and satisfying and even better when paired with an indulgent chocolate brownie. Well worth a visit in this almost secret part of London

Colin Sadler, Managing Director of Low, Slow & Juke, added, “This stretch between Westminster Abbey and Victoria is changing fast with new residential conversions creating a more easy lifestyle feel to the whole area. Low, Slow & Juke will be a very fresh offering for the area, and we are all set for an adventurous launch season. We hope it will establish itself as a lively, comfortable destination within the neighbourhood. But more than that, its distinctive drinks and food and Deep South ambience will be a discovery worth travelling to.”
