Keep The Wine Flowing: York & Albany Launches New Wine Bar

There’s a new Wine Bar in town – welcome to York & Albany’s local hideaway

Carved into one of the converted stables of the former 1820s coaching inn, the rustic Wine Bar offers an unpretentious spot to sip on an intriguing selection of wines by the glass, bottle and tap.

An authentic neighbourhood bar in its truest sense, all cobbled stones, wooden features and exposed brickwork, it’s an ideal spot for mid-week unwinding, catching up with a friend, or a pre-dinner drink. Modestly decorated, wine glasses and bottles adorn the walls, whilst the low-level lighting sets the mood.

Must-try discoveries by the glass or bottle include a Delicato First Press Chardonnay from the USA, a rich Argentinian Malbec and a distinct Spanish Rioja Reserva; as well as a crisp Réserve de Gassac Rosé from France – all offering exceptional value. Sweet wines, sherries and port are the perfect complement to cheese and charcuterie, whilst a chilled selection of champagne and sparkling wine (including UK favourite Chapel Down) turn quiet nights into special celebrations.

Wine is made more accessible, try before you buy with help from friendly staff in-the-know. Choose from three wines on tap – a dry, rich Bacchus from Kingscote Vineyards, Sussex; a fruity white Grüner Veltliner from Huber, Austria; and an intense Terrasses Rouge (Grenache/Syrah), Chateau Pesquie, Ventoux.

Head Chef Will Stanyer offers a daily-changing, seasonal selection of tasty, affordable small plates – perfect as snacks or for sharing with friends. With an emphasis on simple, authentic dishes, snack on the likes of smoked aubergine and burnt onions; venison meatballs in tomato sauce; and chorizo croquettes. If it’s wine and charcuterie you fancy, the Wine Bar’s selection couldn’t get more British with coppa, saucisson, bresaola, all cut, cured and smoked in Islington and a selection of British cheeses including Bosworth Ash, Berkswell, Brighton Blue and Tunworth.

Monthly drop-in and ticketed events will also be hosted at the Wine Bar, offering an array of masterclasses, workshops and talks highlighting the latest in the wine industry and local British produce.

Pull up a pew and raise a glass in your new local.
