Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Wyoming

Something for everyone. from tough runs to a Wild West atmosphere

Experienced skiers and snowboarders usually have a ‘wish list’ or even a ‘bucket list’ of resorts which the want to visit at least once in their lives. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, www.jacksonhole.com, in the Teton Mountains of the US State of Wyoming, is usually on those lists. The adventurous are drawn to this winter playground because of its reputation of offering some of the World’s toughest in-bounds terrain and it often features in those magazine articles about extreme ski runs. For many the lure of this resort is to take on its ungroomed black runs or to enjoy its prestigious snow conditions. Others arrive in search of the Wild West atmosphere of Jackson town and an experience of America in its rawest form – nature, mountains, snow, wildlife and the freshest of fresh airs.

But Jackson Hole isn’t just for rugged, intrepid types, the resort has a softer side too, something indeed which it is been putting considerable focus on in recent years. A look at the accommodation choices will give you more than a taste of what comforts are on offer – a luxurious Four Seasons at the foot of the slopes, the chic Hotel Terra with its stylish decor, the glamorous Amangani occupying a hillside position overlooking the valley and more.

The slopes offer scope for a more relaxed ski holiday too, with some delightful intermediate trails making their way down the tree-clad mountain. Add in a couple of nice spots for lunch and a few fast chairlifts and you can see that it isn’t all rough and tough.

Away from the slopes Jackson Hole has plenty of other attractions too, not least the natural wonders of the Grand Teton National Park and its world renowned neighbour Yellowstone National Park, home to geysers, canyons, bison and bear amongst others.

Between the slopeside Teton Village and the old, Wild West town of Jackson, you won’t go hungry either, with a wide array of dining options, from the casual Thai, via Modern Mexican, burger bars and Sushi restaurants to stylish steak houses. As an appetiser maybe consider a couple of beers in a saloon and a stroll along the town’s wooden boardwalks to check out the shopping. It is après ski, but with a western twist.

James Rivers, USA Product Manager of specialist tour operator Ski Safari, understands the destination’s draw “Jackson Hole town and Yellowstone National Park are famous destinations all year round for a taste of the historic wild west, stunning scenery and amazing wildlife. Visiting over the winter offers the same appeal as well as an amazing ski resort.”

Explaining why Jackson Hole should appeal to About My Generation readers Rivers continued “We sometimes find more mature customers don’t necessarily want to ski all day – Jackson is perfect for a huge range of non-ski activities. There are incredible wildlife excursions in Yellowstone , attractions such as the National Elk Refuge or fly fishing, for keen photographers the national park offers fantastic photography opportunities, whilst the spas in the Amangani and Four Seasons hotels are a great place to relax and unwind.”

In addition to all of these attractions visitors this season will also have chance to join in with the resort’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Turning 50 is usually cause for celebration and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is not an exception, with the resort is organising more than just a party, it is opening a new lift, hosting a series of great events and is also welcoming a top Grammy Award winning Country Music act, the Zac Brown Band, to its Rendezvous Festival (19th March 2016).

So if Jackson Hole was already on your wish list or has just made an appearance, then perhaps this season it would be a good time to tick it off?
