Tom and Henry of The Fabulous Baker Brothers open the doors to the first ever Beer Bakery

The world’s first beer bakery opens its doors today serving up an exclusive range of breads specifically baked to complement beer and its natural ingredients. The Beer Bakery has been crafted in partnership with Tom and Henry Herbert of The Fabulous Baker Brothers to celebrate the unique bond beer and bread share, and is open to the public in Hackney, East London.

‘Proving’ the nation’s love of beer, the bakery opens from midday to late daily until Saturday 31st October with thousands of loaves expected to be sold. A selection of six different breads from sourdough to spelt and barley will be on tap, each inspired by a different beer from the world’s leading brewer AB InBev; bringing together the Great British Pub and the rise of Artisan Bakeries.

The Beer Bakery will serve:
  • A Spelt and Barley Pineapple Soda Bread packed with chunks of pineapple and a hoppy undertone that matches the flavour profile of Stella Artois. It will pair beautifully with mature cheddar.
  • A Blond Sourdough made with a hint of malt and stone baked for a beautiful crust to bring the classic flavours of Leffe Blond to life. It will make an ideal base for a thick, rustic sandwich.
  • A Spiced Orange and Coriander All Butter Brioche infused with nutmeg and cloves for those with a sweeter tooth, based on the Hoegaarden beer, and served as six mouth-watering glazed buns.
  • A Sea Salt and Lime Encrusted Cornbread, inspired by the fresh flavours of Corona, sprinkled with coarse maze for added crunch (and best served with beautifully hot chilli-con-carne, fresh guacamole, hot salsa and a dollop of sour cream).
  • A Bud Tiger Bread – inspired by the All-American classic Budweiser – created as the perfect base for the classic NY Reuben sandwich.
  • An Apple, Walnut, Barley and Malted Wheat Seeded Loaf perfect for that British staple, ‘The Ploughman’s sandwich’, and a cold glass of Beck’s Vier.

Tom and Henry of The Fabulous Baker Brothers rose to the challenge, taking more than 80 hours in their family bakery Hobbs House to refine the recipes and using a total of 26 different types of natural ingredients in the process.

Tom Herbert of The Fabulous Baker Brothers said: “Beer and breads share a natural history that dates back as far as 6,000BC. As passionate bakers – and beer drinkers – we were immediately excited to be part of The Beer Bakery. We can’t wait to hear what the public think of the beer bread range; hopefully they are tempted to raise a glass and also have a go at baking themselves.”

Hugo Anderson, Brewmaster at AB InBev said: “I have been in the industry over 36 years and I still marvel at the beauty of beer. Just a few natural ingredients – barley, yeast, hops and water – and you can make a vast array of wonderful tasting beers, each with its own individual, subtle flavour. This is the same with bread. Beer and bread really are a naturally perfect match.”

Each bread will sell for between £3.00 and £3.50 with the accompanying beers also available to enjoy in the bakery itself.
