The Thames’ first ever Royally Rich Afternoon Tea exhibition and cruise

City Cruises plans an April where royal babies, gun toting cowboys, American riches and Battenberg cake all come together

As Britain, and the world, prepares itself for the arrival of the newest Royal baby, City Cruises, London’s number one sightseeing operator on the River Thames, in association with world renowned royal experts Ian Pelham Turner and Helena Chard, has announced a special series of Royally Rich Afternoon Tea Cruises throughout April.

The special teas, which combine a cruise, photographic exhibition, lecture and a sumptuous high-tea, will take passengers on a story of Royal children from the Victorian times through to present day. Ian and Helena will reveal the fascinating history behind the new Royal baby’s bloodlines that trace back to gun toting cowboy Frank Work, as well as stories of a secret Royal residence and why Battenberg Cake is a particular Royal favourite.

Taking place on most Mondays and Tuesdays in April and departing from Tower Pier at 3.30pm (returning at 5pm), the Royally Rich Afternoon Tea Cruise series will offer an exclusive opportunity to delve deeper into a 150 years of Royal children. Ian and Helen will offer their unique insight accompanied by a special photographic exhibition detailing the lives of the Royal children through the ages while passengers enjoy a truly authentic Afternoon Tea cruising down the Thames.

The Royally Rich Afternoon Tea includes a cream tea along with a selection of finger sandwiches and pastries, including Battenberg cake (all will be revealed on the cruise as to why) and an almost endless supply of tea. Alternatively, those who fancy a little more indulgence might enjoy a glass of Champagne for an additional £8.

Tickets are priced from £35 for adults and £25 for children (aged 5-12)*. Window seats (aged 5+) can be purchased from £40 per person**.

Ian Pelham Turner, former Royal Photographer, said: “I am thrilled to be partnering with City Cruises. Our photographic exhibition illustrates over 150 years of royal children, with amusing and amazing anecdotes of how they were raised, and Helen and I are looking forward to recounting our personal experiences of working with four generations of the Royal Family.”

Kyle Haughton, Managing Director, City Cruises, said: “This April is set to be another exciting month for the British, and global, public as we await the arrival of another royal baby, and our special edition Afternoon Tea Cruises have been designed with this in mind. Rarely do the public get an opportunity to delve into the lives of the royal children so this is an opportunity not to be missed!
