Grandparents footing bill for ‘we-time’ holidays

Holiday accommodation website says more bookings are being paid for by grandparents in a bid to keep families together this summer

Many of the hip hotels and cool cottages listed on Baby-Friendly Boltholes are perfect for large family get-togethers, and the site has seen an increase in bookings for multi-generational groups.

We’re seeing increasing numbers of grandparents both researching and booking multi-generation breaks” says founder Sian Williams.

Today’s grandparents are the first of the passport generation for whom international travel was not just for the select few. They expect more from family holidays than a weekend away in some drab holiday camp, and are more Burberry than Butlins.

Baby Friendly Boltholes lists luxe properties that are safe and stylish for travelling families. Not only that, but, along with long lists of useful nursery gear, many of the properties also boast five-star services like visiting beauty therapists and private chefs.

Holidaying with grandparents is a ‘win win’ for the whole family,” says Williams. “Grandparents get to spend quality time with their extended family and parents can enjoy some ‘we-time’ as a couple thanks to having free ‘granny nanny’ childcare on tap!”
