Regatta Outdoor Clothing and Equipment

Peter Morrell looks at the range for 2014 which is functional, stylish and affordable

Rigby Quilted Jacket

I know that many AMG readers are keen walkers, with some of you content with a stroll in the park while others going on rambling holidays and cover 10-15 miles a day.

Whatever type of walker you are good equipment is essential to keep you warm, dry and comfortable. And just because you are taking some exercise this doesn’t mean having to look scruffy, particularly if you are walking in a built up area.

As a walker myself I know that high-performance clothing and boots can make the difference between a walk being a thoroughly miserable experience or highly enjoyable. So I was interested when I recently got an invitation to take a look at the new 2014 range of Regatta outdoor clothing and equipment.

I started by looking at jackets and there was something for every occasion. The top of the range items have taped seams to make them windproof, multiple layers to keep you warm and Isotex, Regatta’s own waterproof and breathable fabric, to keep you dry. These features are all vital for clothing that has to cope with the most adverse conditions.

If you are a sports spectator then a good option is the Rigby Quilted jacket, this is a highly stylish piece of clothing in a number of fashionable colours. Its high collar and Thermo-Guard insulation will keep you warm on the coldest winter’s day as you cheer on your kids or grand kids at the touch line.

For summer walking, when a shower can take you by surprise, the water and windproof Stormbreak jacket is a lightweight and affordable solution. There are also fleeces and hoodies, bodywarmers and gilets and waterproof trousers. There is an equally good selection of all these items for women and children.

The Ultra-Max Mid X-LT boot

I then moved on to take a look at the footwear range. Again there is a boot to suit every type of walking. As a hiker I look for a slightly curved sole so you can roll your foot forward. The sole must also be quite stiff to keep your foot upright on uneven ground and the boot needs to be high cut above the ankle, this stops sprains and avoids knocking the bone.

The boot must also keep your feet both warm and dry. The Ultra-Max Mid X-LT offered all these features and at a very affordable price, as with the jackets they are lined with Regatta’s Isotex waterproof and breathable technology.

For the less active who would rather amble than ramble then there are other equally capable footwear solutions. Again there are options for women and children.

Finally I took a look at the accessories, technical walking socks to wick away moisture, gloves, hats, gaiters and even walking poles. These also reflected the stylish designs of the jackets and boots.

So if you are looking for high performance outdoor wear this year that will make you look and feel good, and at reasonable prices visit the Regatta website to buy online of find the location of your nearest stockist.
