Walking, wilderness and wildlife in Tasmania

A unique experience for lovers of walking combines the iconic sights of Australia with the heart of the wilderness, the natural beauty and the spectacular wildlife of Tasmania – one of the last paradises on earth. Undiscovered Australia – Tasmania itinerary is a new tour being run by HF Holidays next year.

This new holiday starts in Sydney where a mix of half-day walks with sightseeing and full day walks take in highlights such as the Sydney Harbour National Park, Katoomba and the Blue Mountains, Wentworth Falls, Melbourne, Apollo Bay.  There’s also the chance to see koala in the wild at Cape Otway as well as a Great Ocean walk to view the 12 Apostles.

Then it’s on to Launceston in Tasmania and an introduction to the island’s own Devils at Cradle Mountain.  Guests will have the opportunity to see this endangered species at a conservation project and in the wild amid the pristine rainforests of the true Tasmanian wilderness, the Tarkine.

There’s also a relaxing cruise down the Pieman River to explore the Wild West Coastline followed by a choice of walks at Mount Donaldson, the Balfour Track, Lake Chisholm, the Julius River Forest Reserves and Cataract Gorge.

The final part of the holiday takes place in the contrasting east of the island – with its white sand beaches and turquoise seas – where highlights include wildlife spotting in Douglas Apsley National Park, a trail to the summit of Mount Wellington – for fantastic views – as well as walks along Wineglass Bay and in Mount Field National Park.

Available with departures in March, October and November 2013, the cost is from £5295 per person (land-only) or £6195 inclusive of return, overnight Heathrow flights and transfers.  These twin-share prices include 17 nights’ mainly full-board accommodation, the full programme of guided walks led by a minimum of one specialist local leader (two or more in Tasmania), sightseeing, entrance fees, internal flights and coach travel.
