Snuggies and Slankets
The hands-free that keeps you warm
"It couldn’t have arrived at a better time. It is nothing more than an oversized, soft, fleecy blanket with sleeves, but it has cheered up our household enormously. Living in a draughty old house, we have long realised that the only way to watch TV during the colder months, is wrapped in a duvet.
"But the Snuggie has changed all that It keeps you warm as toast while your hands are free. So you can read, eat, knit, drink cocoa or whatever takes your fancy while staying snug".
Chris Hurley has found them to be one of the best Christmas presents ever - to read more click here...

Introducing the MOB Blog
Chris Hurley's Mother of the Bride Diary
With a daughter getting married this summer, I am beginning to realise that weddings are a complicated old business and I clearly have a lot to learn. There are plenty of brides-to-be out there blogging about their big day but mothers-of-the-brides and grooms are nowhere to be seen.
As ideas person, support system, mediator and diplomacy expert, a mother’s work is never done. Ultimately we bear responsibility for the success of the day – not to mention the cost – so it’s time we had our say too.

The Editor's Diary
updated 8th January 2010
In this edition she gets quizzed in Central London but it ends with a very good result. It was then on to an event hosted by our good friends fromacross the pond and it was a case of I see food therefore I eat food. A few days later she enjoyed some excellent Middle Eastern hospitality, but is astounded by a greedy con man. She is treated to a lunch by her daughter's boyfriend at a place that really is Number One and on Christmas Eve goes to the pub to celebrating a one year anniversary of ... going to the pub. Christmas was a lazy affair but New Year turned out to be hectic with more of that quizzing going on. To alleviate the effects of the cold weather she receives a gift that keeps on giving, well keeps on getting warmer. And another present solves the problem of how to find her door keys in the dead of night when shivering on the door step. And finally she marvels at the resilience of her feathered friends at the bottom of the garden who seem to be relishing the snow.

Harbour Highlights
A relaxing weekend in the Chichester Area
In the rush to visit new, interesting places it’s easy to overlook what is almost on our doorstep. A 90 minute drive from London will take you back centuries to the area around Chichester where history abounds and a sense of calm prevails. Sea birds calling from the salt marshes, sandy beaches, long lazy walks and distant views to the Isle of Wight are the ideal therapy after a long and taxing week in the busy Metropolis.
Peter Morrell and Chris from AMG spent a couple of days exploring this corner of West Sussex. There was no shortage of places to visit and things to do and, with the added bonus of the Indian summer weather, it turned out to be quite idyllic.

Foster Caring
It’s never too late to make a difference
Foster carers play a huge role in the lives of many children who, for a variety of reasons, cannot live with their parents. Perhaps, as someone over forty-five or an empty nester, you thought it too late to make a difference to a disadvantaged child. But you would be wrong as there is no age limit to becoming a foster parent and older people with parenting experience can be ideal candidates.

Carters World
Out of Africa
Well-known television presenter, broadcaster and lecturer, John Carter shares his love of South Africa. He says, “Like most of my generation, I thought I knew all about Africa before I ever went there. We were, you see, raised on a diet of Saturday morning cinema shows featuring the adventures of Tarzan, and an assortment of similar "jungle" epics.
“The reality was, of course, utterly different and I certainly envy anyone who has yet to experience Africa and its wonders.

If you are in Covent Garden in 2010 and want to pay £20.10 for a meal in a restaurant then there are details about just the place. You don't need a pig to find the main ingredient being offered at this next restaurant just head on over to Docklands and do your own foraging.. And finally there is some re-assurance that if you visit the land of the Pharaohs you won't end up with the Sphinx's inscrutable smile.

Booze Newz
Peter Morrell, Food and Drink Editor of AMG reports on the latest liquid surprises and delights
Updated 3rd February 2010
In this month's edition his New Year's resolution regarding booze is helped by the weather on a couple of occasions but derailed when he gets tempted by some very English delights that sparkled and blossomed. He discovers a tasty offering from the "Île de Beauté" so good it's surprising that Napoleon left his birth place. He then pays a trip to see mummy, no, not the relative. While he is there he discovers that, despite the hot weather, the drinking opportunities are really quite good and with names like Omar Khayam it suggests romance. So when coming back home he finds some other romantic possibilities to make this year's Valentine's Day a memorable one, One is bubbly, another sounds like paradise the final one reminds him of a Frankie Valli hit song.

The Untold History of the Battle of Britain

"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" were the words immmortalised by Winston Churchill in his inspirational speech as Britain prepared for the expected invasion by Germany. 'With Wings Like Eagles' is the gripping tale of "the few" and how, in the long, hot summer of 1940, against all the odds, they succeeded in dominating the skies and halting the Nazi invasion.
